- A large group of school pupils and accompanying adults stand outside the Dylan Thomas Theatre in Swansea. The theatre's name is displayed above the entrance, while a mural decorates the upper façade. The group is gathered for a photograph in the paved area outside the building.
- Group standing on a theatre stage in front of a period shop set during a visit to a Theatr na nÔg production.
- People discussing a theatre set featuring period furniture and streetscape scenery on a stage at Theatr na nÔg.
- Two Theatr na nÔg promotional banners in a theatre foyer, featuring photographs from stage productions and the slogan “Igniting the Imagination of a Nation”.
- Exhibition display featuring posters for the bilingual production Ac Abertawe'n Fflam / It'll All Be Over By Christmas, cast and creative team information, and a scale model of the theatre set on a round table.
Last week I went to see the Neath based theatre company Theatr na nÓg's latest production "It'll all be over by Christmas" at the Dylan Thomas Theatre.
Through following the story of an evacuee in Swansea during the Sevond World War, it explores with the effect of war and displacement on families and communities.
I had the opportunity to watch this powerful production alongside pupils of Abbey Primary School, who after the performance were able to ask probing questions of the actors - covering rehearsal schedules, choreography, set design, their route into acting, and who would win in a fight!
I want to thank Theatr na nÓg for the invitation and for this important production, the actors for taking the time to speak to the young people and myself, and, of course, the staff and pupils of Abbey Primary who seemed to really enjoy the show.
