About Sioned
Deputy First Minister of Wales, and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality.
In May 2026, Sioned Williams was re-elected as a Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd. She represents the new constituency of Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd.
When Plaid Cymru formed the Welsh Government and Rhun ap Iorwerth was elected as First Minister he appointed Sioned as his Deputy First Minister of Wales, and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality.
In the 6th Senedd Sioned (2021- 2026) where she represented the region of South Wales West, she held the positions of Plaid Cymru's Deputy Whip and Spokesperson for Social Justice and Early Years.
She sat on the Senedd's Equality and Social Justice Committee and was Chair of four Senedd Cross Party Groups: the Senedd Cross Party Group on Violence against Women and Children; the Senedd Cross Party Group on Human Rights; the Senedd Cross Party Group on Learning Disability and the Senedd Cross Party Group on Consumer Rights. She was also Vice Chair of the Senedd Cross Party Group on Academic Staff in Universities.
Sioned was a Member of the Senedd Cross Party Group on Children in Our Care; Senedd Cross Party Group on Disability; Senedd Cross Party Group on Fuel Poverty and Energy Efficiency; Senedd Cross Party Group on Medical Research; Senedd Cross Party Group on Universities; Senedd Cross Party Group on Women and Senedd Cross Party Group on Women's Health.

After graduating in Welsh and English from Aberystwyth University, she won the S4C T. Glynne Davies Scholarship to study for a postgraduate diploma in Journalism at Cardiff University. She was a journalist with BBC Wales before going to work for Swansea University as Welsh Language Policy Officer and Communications and Development Manager at Academi Hywel Teifi. Sioned also worked for Plaid Cymru as Head of Strategic Communications.
She was Chair of Cilybebyll Community Council and a Governor of Ysgol Gymraeg Ystalyfera Bro Dur before being elected as Member of the Senedd for South Wales West in the 2021 Election.
Beyond politics, Sioned is passionate about promoting our arts and culture and is well known as a reviewer and commentator on broadcasting and the arts.
Sioned was brought up in the Gwent Valleys and she lives in the Tawe Valley with her husband and has two children.
