In a speech to the Senedd, Sioned Williams MS discusses the First Minister’s response to UK Government proposed welfare cuts

Sioned Williams MS, Plaid Cymru Member of Senedd for South Wales West, has raised concerns about the First Minister’s response to UK Government proposed welfare cuts.

Ms Williams referred to Eluned Morgan’s speech to her party on Tuesday (6 May 2025), where Ms Morgan spoke about Welsh Government’s disagreements with the UK Government over decisions on welfare cuts, comparing it to the characters’ relationships within Gavin & Stacey, a popular comedy programme.

Sioned Williams MS said to the Senedd:

“What on earth was the tasteless and inappropriate reference made to Gavin and Stacey, comparing disagreements over decisions on welfare cuts that literally mean that people are going to bed cold, without enough to eat, concerned about the bills that come through the letterbox, to a comedy programme? We need to change the script.”
