“Women belong in all places where decisions are made” - Sioned Williams MS
On International Women’s Day 2025, Sioned Williams MS has said that “women belong in all places where decisions are made”, and that we must “take this year’s theme head on” to empower women in politics.
This year’s theme is to “Accelerate Action” as we strive for full gender parity – with the theme calling for increased momentum and urgency in addressing systemic barriers and biases faced by women and girls.
Plaid Cymru spokesperson for Social Justice and Equalities, Sioned Williams MS said:
“This International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the progress made in the advancement of equality, but we must also remember that there is still so much work to do – and in that spirit take this year’s theme head on to accelerate change both in our communities and in our democracy.
“Next year will be a crucial year for women in Wales: an opportunity to stand for election to our Senedd, to be involved in decision-making at the highest level, and to influence policies which impact women every single day – for the better. This is even more crucial given the increasing levels of misogyny and violence against women and girls in our society.”
